| . For us the idea of consultation should always be about planting seeds of ideas. No-one knows how these ideas will germinate. However it is only with public support that ideas can become reality. With public consultation comes responsibilities as well as rights. We are all responsible for nurturing and protecting the public domain. We are all responsible for the types of environment we see around us.

May
1st 1999 A consultation exercise on public open space by Shillam + Smith Sponsored by The Architecture Foundation and London Borough of Newham Pupils of Langdon Secondary School will be helping us plant an eighty meter strip of derelict carriageway with summer annuals. Come and join us - help us sew the seeds and plant an idea at the same time. Each visitor will be invited to sow (easy to grow) seeds - either bring your own or we will provide. At the same time you will be invited to plant an idea written on a plant label with your name on it, by the seeds that you have sewn. This is part of a consultation on the Newham Green Chains and Thoroughfares for Newham - an exercise to landscape left over spaces on the main roads to mark entrances to the borough and to create a chain of green cycling and walking routes around the borough. On 17th July you are invited back to a festival celebration, to see the planted road in flower, and to view our design ideas which will have been born out of this consultation process. We want as many people as possible to send us seeds and ideas, even if they can not come on the day. Newham is a borough of many different cultures, people living here have connections all over the world. Some of Britains best loved plants come from other countries. Send us some seeds which mean something special to you. Help us answer these questions:
Send your seeds and a message to: (Remember easily grown annuals, either flowers or quick growing salads would be appreciated)
